The first week with leverage is when habits form, good or bad. Simple rules for new Bitget futures traders covering size, leverage, margin mode, stops and when to stop for the day.

The first week of trading futures on Bitget sets the tone for what follows. If it goes well by luck, it encourages bigger size and higher leverage; if it goes badly, it tempts you to chase losses. Either way, habits form fast. A short set of rules for that first week keeps the stakes small while you learn how the mechanics actually behave. Leverage magnifies losses as well as gains, and positions can be liquidated quickly in volatile markets. This guide offers rules to adopt before you start. It is not financial advice.
Fix a budget for the week
Choose an amount for the whole week that you could lose completely without affecting bills or savings, and move only that amount into the futures account. When it is gone, the week is over. Consider using a separate sub-account if available so that the budget is physically separate from the rest of your funds. Do not top it up during the week under any circumstances.
Keep size and leverage low
Use low leverage and small positions, even if the budget would allow more. The goal of the first week is to understand how orders, margin and liquidation estimates behave, not to make money. Read the Bitget help centre on isolated and cross margin and choose isolated margin while learning, so a single position cannot draw on the rest of your futures balance.
Always know your exit
Before each trade, write down the price at which you will exit if you are wrong and place a stop order accordingly. Test how stop orders behave with a tiny size first. Check the estimated liquidation price and make sure it sits well beyond your stop. If you find yourself moving a stop further away to avoid being stopped out, close the trade instead.
Stop for the day and review
Set a daily limit, such as two losing trades, after which you stop until tomorrow. At the end of each day, note what you did, whether you followed the rules and what surprised you. At the end of the week, read the notes before deciding whether to continue. Deciding that futures trading is not for you is a perfectly sound outcome. A week of small, careful trades teaches more than a month of large, rushed ones.
